Bookmarking Tools in the Classroom

Though I was apprehensive at first, I’ve come to quite enjoy using Delicious to collect teaching resources and links. Saving resources is a great way to remember them. This is very helpful when thinking of lesson plans and ideas, as the links can be tagged and bundled according to the subject or unit you wish to associate them with.

You can use Delicious in the classroom to direct students to resources and sites for the particular unit. By tagging links by ‘social studies’, students can find resources in that bundle easily. You could also save links for students with exceptionalities, ELLs, or students who may finish their work early and need an educational activity.

In addition to Delicious, there are a number of other bookmarking tools. I found two that I like  Diigo offers you the ability to annotate links, collaborate, and select how much information you share. Google Bookmarks allows you to set privacy settings on your links, which may be useful for saving resources and lesson ideas that are not intended for students to use directly. Since this tool is attached to your Google account, it is convenient in that no additional login information is required.
