Letter to Parents: Using Video Resources at Home

Dear students, parents, and guardians,

As we begin our unit on the solar system, our grade 6 students will be taking a look at the planets, as well as how humans are able to explore space. To start things off, we’d like you to check out a few videos from Neo K12. This site provides useful videos, activities and quizzes which you can use for review and learning throughout this unit. I have attached two tasks that I'd like you to complete before our class on Monday.

Task 1: Please have a look at Exploring the Solar System Part 1 and Part 2 . This will be a great introduction to our unit; some information will be new, some may be a nice reminder!

Task 2: I’d like you start an online KWL chart (we’ve done lots of these in class!). Post 5 things you think you already know about space, and 5 things you want to learn about, on your blog. These can be based on the videos you just watched, or from things you’ve learned about previously. We’ll be using these to start our inquiry projects for the unit.

Bonus Task: Face off with someone at home on this Solar System Kahoot quiz!

If you are unable to access the videos at home, please consider using the computers at our local library, or talk to Mr. Smith about starting this project during school time.

Happy learning!

- Mr. Smith
